Bairnsdale Production Line Theatre Company is once again preparing to bring quality musical theatre to East Gippsland audiences. This year's offering is the vibrantly fun & Juliet, reimagining one of literature’s most familiar endings with energy, humour and heart.

With a three-week season beginning on 1 May, & Juliet is a show not to be missed. What if Juliet didn’t die? What if she chose her own ending? What if there is life after Romeo? From this simple but powerful idea unfolds a story of second chances, friendship and self-discovery. Carried by a soundtrack of well-known 1990s and 2000s pop anthems from The Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Katie Perry and more, & Juliet has a spirit of resilience that feels unmistakably contemporary.

The production follows on from Production Line’s highly successful 2025 season of Come From Away, which earned a deeply positive community response to its sensitive subject matter. Building on that momentum, Production Line once again brings together an experienced creative team and committed cast, united by the shared excitement of creating live theatre for local audiences.

Bringing the show to life are local dance teachers Casey Davidge and Shawna Bartlett, as co-directors and choreographers. Casey is leading her first musical as co-director after providing choreography for Production Line shows such as Chicago, Mamma Mia, The Wedding Singer, and Grease.

Casey said.

“I am loving the energy and enthusiasm around the show so far and seeing it start to come together is so very exciting. I love our production team and working alongside Shawna is a dream, she’s full of brilliant ideas and I am thoroughly enjoying the process of bringing & Juliet to the stage together”,

Working with Casey as co-director is also a new challenge for Shawna, who has previously been seen on-stage in various Production Line performances, most recently in 2022’s Grease, where she played the part of Cha Cha Di Gregorio, as well as being choreographer for School of Rock in 2023.

Shawna said.

“The cast are incredible and we're making fantastic progress. I feel very privileged to be working alongside Casey. She is truly a powerhouse, and we work so well together. I’m excited to see what unfolds in the coming weeks and months, as the cast are just getting better and better. So far, stepping into directing for the first time has been a truly wonderful experience”,

While the spectacle of & Juliet promises a full palette of colour and energy, at its heart is a relatable human story of a young woman stepping beyond heartbreak to discover who she is and what comes next on her own terms. It is a celebration of choosing your own future, even when the world expects you to choose differently.

As rehearsals gather pace, anticipation is quietly growing for a production that blends humour and emotion with music and dance in equal measure, continuing the Production Line tradition of theatre that is both entertaining and meaningful.

& Juliet opens on Friday 1 May, running for 3 weeks, concluding with a Sunday matinee on 17 May.
