As rehearsals continue for Bairnsdale Production Line Theatre Company’s upcoming production of & Juliet, opening at The Forge Theatre on Friday 1 May and running through to a Sunday matinee on 17 May, attention is also turning to the musicians who will bring the show’s pop soundtrack to life from the orchestra pit.
Leading the band is a familiar name to many performers in the local theatre community. After many years working with Production Line as a vocal coach, Rebekah Axe is stepping into the role of Music Director for the first time.
Rebekah is well known locally through her vocal studio, Axe Contemporary Vocals, where she has spent many years helping singers develop their technique, confidence and performance skills. Through both her teaching and work in local productions, she has supported numerous performers prepare for the spotlight.
Now, in taking on the Music Director role for & Juliet, she brings that same experience and musical knowledge to the full production, guiding both the band and the cast through a score packed with well-known pop hits. Rebekah said:
“Who doesn’t love new challenges? Last year I stepped out onto the stage for the first time, in the role of Beulah in Come From Away, something that was totally out of my comfort zone”. “This year I’m tackling another new role in the form of Music Director. I'm having so much fun, learning new skills and getting to work with amazing musicians. I'm so excited for everyone to see this show and hear this band.”
The live band plays an important role in shaping the sound and pace of the production, supporting the cast through a fast-moving score that blends contemporary pop songs with traditional musical theatre storytelling.
As rehearsals continue, the collaboration between musicians and performers is helping build the vibrant musical energy at the heart of the show, ensuring audiences will experience the full impact of the production’s lively soundtrack when the curtain rises.
